Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT) is a scientifically proven, holistic health treatment that is tailor-made for troubled sleepers.
Once limited to hospitals and luxury health clubs, Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT) has made oxygen therapy available AND affordable to troubled sleepers searching for a holistic solution!
Stress and anxiety are common culprits of troubled sleep that are difficult to treat. mHBOT uses a pressurised chamber to flood the cells in your body and brain with rich oxygen, increasing serotonin production, reducing stress and anxiety levels, and regulating your central nervous system: all of which lead to better sleep!
Sleep apnea is primarily caused by airway blockages that prevent your brain and body from receiving the oxygen they need to function at an optimal level. By increasing blood oxygen levels, mHBOT reduces the severity of sleep apnea episodes, leading to more restful sleep.
Without enough oxygen, many systems in the body begin to break down, leading to a wide range of common side effects. By improving overall oxygen levels in the blood and tissues, mHBOT enhances cellular function, increases overall body health, and improves the systems responsible for sleep regulation.
Few things derail sleep quite like pain. Whether you are suffering from short term injuries or even chronic pain, mHBOT has a well-documented track record of providing significant, noticeable relief from pain, allowing you to more easily fall asleep and remain asleep through full REM cycles each night.
Modern phenomena like irregular sleep schedules, electronic devices, travel across time zones, and poor diets all conspire to throw off our circadian rhythm. By increasing blood oxygen levels, regular mHBOT sessions often have a noticeable mitigating effect on these disruptions, helping to regulate your circadian rhythm.
Under normal conditions at sea level, we typically breathe in 21% oxygen. In this environment, our red blood cells (haemoglobin) are almost entirely saturated with oxygen and are unable to carry additional oxygen.
In a hyperbaric pressured environment, oxygen is dissolved into our blood’s plasma, providing a dual carrier system that increases both the oxygen concentration in our bodies and the oxygen available to the cells by 30-50%, better supporting our ability to heal and thrive.
Explore the science and studies behind mHBOT.
Select your date and time, then fill out a brief questionnaire and consent form (you can fill this out in person as well, just arrive 10 minutes early).
Show up at your scheduled time in clean, comfortable clothes, with a book, smartphone, or your preferred entertainment device (it’s safe).
Take your shoes off, hop right in, and enjoy your session! There are no special masks, clothes, or equipment required to benefit from mHBOT.
"Went for a taster session yesterday and I was more than impressed! Everything was explained really well, staff were really friendly and accommodating! Also I had so much more energy after the session and have booked to go again."
“This place is the real deal. Incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, kind and lovely people and really high quality service. I came for hyperbaric oxygen for long Covid. Very highly recommended."
"Amazing and caring staff! Very resourceful and helpful with information. I always feel much better after leaving."
It’s your turn to experience the benefits of pressurised oxygen therapy.
Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT) may enhance sleep quality by increasing oxygen levels in the blood, which can improve overall cellular function and reduce stress and anxiety. This increased oxygenation is thought to help regulate neurotransmitter levels, such as serotonin, which influences sleep cycles. Furthermore, the reduction in inflammation and pain from various conditions treated by mHBOT can also contribute to better sleep, as physical discomfort is a common barrier to restful sleep.
While research on mHBOT for insomnia is still emerging, preliminary findings suggest that it could potentially reduce symptoms by promoting relaxation and alleviating factors that contribute to insomnia, such as chronic pain and anxiety. By improving oxygen delivery to the brain and other tissues, mHBOT may help stabilise mood and decrease the physiological stress responses that often exacerbate insomnia.
The duration of mHBOT sessions for sleep improvement typically ranges from 60 to 90 minutes, depending on individual needs and the specific protocol recommended by a healthcare provider. Sessions might be scheduled several times a week over a course of several weeks to maximise the potential benefits, such as enhanced relaxation and reduced anxiety, which can indirectly improve sleep patterns.
Currently, there are limited studies specifically targeting the effectiveness of mHBOT on sleep disorders. However, existing research has explored its benefits in related areas, such as reducing stress, improving brain function, and alleviating conditions that affect sleep, like chronic pain and anxiety. Further clinical trials are needed to directly assess its impact on sleep disorders and establish standardised treatment protocols.
The frequency of mHBOT sessions for improving sleep can vary based on individual conditions and the severity of sleep disturbances. Typically, a healthcare provider might recommend starting with a series of sessions (e.g., 3-5 times a week) over a few weeks to determine how the individual responds to treatment. The schedule can be adjusted based on observed benefits and individual tolerance.
mHBOT is generally safe with few side effects, but some individuals may experience mild discomfort such as ear pressure, similar to what one might feel in an airplane during takeoff or landing. Rarely, more serious side effects like oxygen toxicity or barotrauma could occur, but these risks are minimal when the therapy is administered in a controlled setting by professionals.
mHBOT may provide benefits for conditions like sleep apnea by increasing tissue oxygenation and possibly reducing inflammation in airways. However, it should not be seen as a primary treatment for sleep apnea, which often requires interventions like CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) therapy. mHBOT might be used adjunctively to improve overall cell health and reduce inflammation that could exacerbate breathing difficulties during sleep.
Yes, mHBOT can be effectively combined with other therapies to enhance sleep improvement results. For instance, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) can help address the psychological aspects of sleep disturbances, while mHBOT addresses physiological aspects by improving overall oxygenation and reducing stress and inflammation. Integrating lifestyle changes such as a regular sleep schedule, a proper diet, and mindfulness or relaxation techniques can also enhance the overall effectiveness of the treatment, leading to better sleep quality and more restorative sleep cycles. Always consult with a healthcare professional to design a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
The cost of mHBOT can vary widely depending on the location, facility, and number of sessions required. 60 minute sessions can often run as high as £200 - £400, but here at The Oxygen Studio, we only charge £90 per session, and you can get sessions as low as £27 each when you buy our memberships.
During a mHBOT session, you will sit back in a comfortable chamber where the atmospheric pressure is increased and pure oxygen is delivered. Sessions usually last between 60 to 90 minutes, during which you can relax, listen to music, or watch TV. It is common to feel a sensation of fullness in the ears, similar to what is experienced during an airplane ascent, which can be alleviated by swallowing or yawning. After the session, you can resume your normal activities immediately.
